If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring the home of an adventure-seeking archeologist like Indiana Jones, Percy Fawcett or Josh Gates (who else loves his shows on the Discovery channel?) you only have to visit a small town in North Georgia.
Just a 30-minute drive from Chattanooga, the historic town of Chickamauga sits at the northwestern border between Georgia and Tennessee. Chickamauga is steeped in history, but the reason we came to stay is that it is home to one of the most unique and entertaining vacation rentals we have ever seen.
This adventure/explorer-themed property creates a truly inspiring environment for a budding adventurer. Travel-centered books, historical maps and vintage artifacts tie the room together charmingly, creating a space rich with the excitement of treasures to be found. You will want to examine every item in the room, and the discovery process will make you feel like an urban archaeologist uncovering pieces of the past.
Vintage leather suitcases with original customs stickers are stacked to create tables and some double as hidden storage spaces. An antique radio tops a writing desk next to a collection of bottles that appear to have been recently excavated. The remnants of ancient treasure maps tease the location of a long-buried treasure. Vintage digging tools with patina and antique lamps, fans and globes are right at home in this room reminiscent of a foreign time and place.
Not everything is vintage, of course. The bathroom is well-appointed with a walk-in shower and plenty of storage space. The kitchen area boasts a compact refrigerator, microwave and sink. The space sits at the end of a quiet road, just a few minutes’ drive from town. Although not a large space, the room is arranged in a thoughtful way to make the most of the living area. Quiet and private, with a wonderfully comfortable bed, you feel right at home, if home is the lair of a swashbuckling treasure hunter.
Owner, Kristi, is a friendly and gracious host, and provided special touches to make us feel welcome. She is also a wealth of information about the area, and will give you great recommendations for restaurants in town.
I will refrain from revealing one of the most fun surprises about this room, but rest assured, it is very cool element that really gives visitors an immersive experience.
And, yes, the iconic hat and whip are here too.
We chose….wisely.
